Yu found me by Google search engine accidentally. We talked about all the details and decided the session day was Dec 22rd.
On Dec 21st, I realized it was highly possible to rain at 22nd, so I called Yu to see if we need to reschedule. Both of them thought little rain did not matter.
At Dec 22nd, three days before Christmas, we arrived at the first spot in the morning – Pasadena City Hall, where a big Christmas tree standing at the front entrance. It was little rain and temperature was quite low, but both of us were quite excited for the holiday decoration. Here we started.
UCLA Royce Hall was the second spot. Gorgeous architecture as usual. We shot around sunset time by mixing natural light and flash lights. We chose Santa Monica 3rd Promenade as our night shot location with beautiful lighting and nice music. Christmas is on the way.

My previous client from USC referred me to Echo and Jason. We first met each other at a small cafe in Encino for brunch, and I realized this could be an interesting project. Echo is an architect of Jerde graduated from USC Architecture Department, and Jason works as a engineer of film special effects. We pick three locations for their pre wedding session: Manhattan Beach, DTLA art district, and Disney Concert Hall which have the most relationship with their lives.
The whole shooting process took about 8 hours including commute time. Both us had fun except the cold temperature at night. Jason’s favorite photo is the one he jumping into air and Echo looking at him with smile, which shows their characters exactly.
They are having their weddings in China now. Hope they enjoy the trip back home and have nice weddings there.
Mia and Jason have planned a wedding in China with their pre wedding session in Los Angeles when we first met. We talked about the different selections of nice photography spots and they eventually picked Malibu beach, USC campus ( coz Jason was graduated there), and Wayfarers Chapel for 8 hours session. It was a long day, but full of fun. These photos were made to a slide show for the wedding and received pretty much compliment on their wedding. Congratulation Mia and Jason.
I have been Eastern Sierra almost once a year. It’s the most beautiful place in California at fall. Aspen leaves turn to yellow from September, starting at high elevation to low elevation. At the middle of Oct, when climate get colder, you can see snow at top of the mountain and yellow leaves at foot of mountain. Its just perfect background of engagement and pre-wedding session.
I had such chance to shoot this couple’s engagement session last year. We left LA at Friday afternoon, merging into the bad traffic. After 5 hours driving, we arrived our cabin at late night. Saturday morning, we started to explore the Eastern Sierra area. First, we visited Mono lake, and then Bodie Ghost Town. After lunch we arrived Mammoth lake at late afternoon. We were shocked when saw the Aspen forest along the lake. The Leaves were pure yellow without any green color. The sky light filtered by those leaves was turn to kind of soft and warm light, scattering on them. Temperature was low, but we all exited and worked couple hours till sunset.
We left this amazing place at Sunday morning, with those beautiful photos and unforgettable memories.
Eastern Sierra, we will back.
Even I hiked so many time here, this was my first time to shoot at Chumash Museum and surrounding area. I loved those big oaks trees and always could imagine those fairy tale happening here. Lighting was perfect too. El Matador Beach was fantastic as usual.
These couple are definitely good looking and easy going. So happy to work with them and congratulations on your beautiful marriage.
